Classy Southern Texan

Today I am linking up with Mel, Sheffar and Shay for What's Up Wednesday.

1) What I'm Eating this Week...

I am trying to get back on track with meal planning so I have been enjoying oatmeal, greek yogurt, pretzels, and lots of healthy protein (chicken, shrimp and steak) along with veggies. My current favorite is a mix of cucumbers, tomatoes and cheese.

Recently I also have been enjoying the RedRock Grilled Shrimp at Longhorn Steakhouse which is near my house in Temple.

2)  What I'm Reminiscing About...

Our trip to Alaska last June...we are going again in May 2018 and I can't wait to see all the whales and glaciers.

3) What I'm Loving...

Sitting out on my little sunroom when I get home from work each evening and just relaxing and reading a good book. :-)

4) What We've Been Up To...

Sadly, I have been to two funerals in the last week. My godmothers' husband passed and family friend. I have been busy working on the house and just enjoying time learning the family business.

5) What I'm Dreading...

Tomorrow I am getting some new air units installed at my business. I am just dreading it because hubby won't be here to help and I know nothing about AC units.

6) What I'm Working On...

Things around the house...it is a constant project. I am planning some new plants in my front flower bed and adjusting to life in TX.

7) What I'm Excited About...

Getting to see my husband this weekend and celebrating my father in laws birthday and the 4th of July!!!

8) What I'm Watching/Reading

Currently I just finished When Life Happens and I started Elin Hilderbrands' new book The Identicals this week.

9) What I'm Listening To...

I am not a big music listener I listen in the car but that is really it. I have been listening to the sounds of business...quarters, candy machines, and issues at the stores.

10) What I'm Wearing...

Shorts and Tees...my summer outfit is JCrew shorts and a basic Banana Republic tshirt.

11) What I'm Doing this Weekend..

Celebrating my father in laws birthday and the 4th of July.

12) What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...

Celebrating my grandfather's 85 birthday!!!

13) What Else is New...

Nothing really...just enjoying every moment. I am looking forward to a weekend of relaxation and family time.

HAPPY SUNDAY!!!

Lately, I have been making lots of desserts and one in particular. It is an old recipe my mom says she made in High School but I just discovered.

Dump Cake....:-) Yummy, Yummy and so dirt simple!!!

Ingredients
1 can of cheery, apple, peach etc. pie filling
1 box of Yellow cake mix
2 sticks of butter

Directions
1. Heat over to 250
2. Spray 9 x 13 baking pan with Pam
3. Dump pie filling into baking pan (I use a spoon to make sure I get all my filling spread evenly across the pan)
4. Dump a yellow cake mix on top of pie filling (cover evenly) I like to use a dry spoon and spread my cake mix evenly in pan
5. Melt two sticks of button and pour over dry cake mix (spread evenly)
6. Bake 30 minutes or until golden brown

I like to put ice cream on top of mine (vanilla) once it has baked and cooled.

Yummy easy dessert and perfect for summer time.

Today I am linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika for Friday Favorites!!!

Whew it sure has been a super hot week...with tropical storm Cindy I thought maybe we would see some rain but NOPE!!!

This week has been a whirlwind with the passing of my Godmother's husband and just the normal everyday things going on.

I have started a regular workout routine and taught my first Barre class this week at T3 in Temple. :-)

I am loving all the fun and bright colors of Summer and recently planted some flowers on my back porch....I love coming home and seeing them in the evening. A friendly neighborhood cat decided to enjoy my lounge chairs.

This week I enjoyed coffee (well the pink drink) so refreshing at Starbucks with a friend from small group, lunch with 2 friends from childhood and just time with family. It is good for the soul to spend time with those special to you.

Stella and Dot released some new favorites and some amazing studs this week and I am starting to look forward to all the fun Fall pieces they have coming out.

Recently I found a new blog LaLa Life thanks to a friend and have been following along. She does daily book suggestions of what she is reading and I have been downloading and filling my night stand with her book recommendations. Currently I am reading, When Life Happened and OMG I didn't see that coming. I thought it was pretty predictable but man oh man does it have a twist.

Hopefully I will be more exciting next week but I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Whew what a whirlwind of a weekend!!! Happy Monday blogging world.

Thursday afternoon I headed to Shreveport, LA. We recently bought a townhouse there so I went to close on the property and help pack up and transport things back to Temple. I got there around 2 on Thursday afternoon and was back in Temple by Friday about 6ish.

The townhouse is in the subdivision we were originally going to build in. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 and a half baths and is perfect for when the hubby is in Shreveport...a place to lay his head and get some work done.

Friday afternoon I spent cleaning house, waiting on furniture for the bedroom and just relaxing.
I got a surprise while cleaning my grill....a little mouse was living inside. I think you could hear my scream around the whole it freaked me out so much. I don't do rodents!!!!

New furniture arrived from West Elm...I got the bed frame and a dresser for the hubby. My only complaint about West Elm delivery was the men who delivered the furniture spoke very very very little English so it was hard to communicate with them.

The random plug above the dresser controls the fan in our Master bedroom talk about strange!!! This house was built in the late 1960s and I believe the fan was installed afterwards.

I am truly loving how the room is all coming together though. :-)

Sunday, I hosted the first event at our new house in Temple. I invited everyone over for hotdogs and hamburgers for Father's Day.

Yesterday evening I finished watching 13 Reasons Why on Netflix...I have to say the ending has me left questioning like what happens now?!?!

I am looking for a new series to watch now if anyone has any suggestions?!?!?

In March, we officially moved to TEXAS and bought our first mid-century modern house.

We have been getting used to being back in Texas, new jobs, commuting back and forth (for the hubby) and trying to decorate the space.

Last week I went to Austin to West Elm...cool fact West Elm is part of the Pottery Barn and William Sonoma family.
We decided to first decorate our bedroom....which meant we needed 2 nightstands, lamps, a dresser and a bed frame. Artwork will come later....
These are pictures from the website of the nightstands and dresser we decided on. I was able to bring home with me the nightstands and lamps and the dresser and bed will be delivered on Saturday.

The room still isn't fully put together but I am loving the lamps and nightstands and putting the room together to make it feel like home.

This picture was taken late at night when I got it all put together...:-)

More to come later...I am hosting my first event at the house for Father's Day.

Today I am linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika for Friday Favorites.

1) SMALL GROUP

Since being back in TX I have reconnected with a friend from childhood who leads small group at her house. This past week I was able to have the opportunity to open up and let out all my feelings with these girls. I know they won't judge me and will love and help me during the tough times.

2) Rodan and Fields

I had fake eyelashes on and off for about the last 4-5 years. I LOVED them and used several different people throughout having them on. When I moved to TX I just didn't love the way they were looking so shortly after Disney I took them off. I started using Rodan and Fields Lash Boost this week and am truly loving it. It is so simple and easy to use. I apply it right after my morning shower, finish getting ready and apply my makeup last thing so it has time to set and dry. I am excited to see the results and will keep yall posted.

3) JCREW shorts

For several years I have been wearing the Jcrew 4 in shorts and have them in sooo many colors. They fit true to size and wash and wear very well. They are a simple, easy put on and go item and I always know they will work. :-) I wore them daily at Disney.

4) SUMMER TIME

I am ready for BBQs, time in the sun and just relaxing. I love Summer because there are so many fun celebrations. From Memorial Day to birthdays and 4th of July there is just something festive going on all season long.

5) BOOKS

I love reading Shay (Mix and Match Mamma's) monthly book review and just started Behind Closed Doors. For some reason I can't get it sync with my iPad so I have been reading on my phone but I am loving it sooo far.
