Life Lately...Summer Reading Edition

Life Lately...has consisted of long summer days, spent working, celebrating mine and my husband's birthday's and a quick trip away to San Antonio.

I love to read and enjoy the long days of summer when I can stay up later and enjoy a good book read in bed. I would choose reading over TV or music any day of the week.

Here is what I have read lately....

When Life Happened by Jewel E. Ann...

This book is about two twins sisters, their past and how they come to collide on day when they are adults. One twin is married (ironically to the other twins ex), expecting her first baby and has moved back to their home town. The other twin is looking for a job and remodeling her grandparents house. This twin isn't looking for love but does find it not only once but twice. I don't want to give too much away but let's just say I didn't see the first relationship ending the way it did and her falling in love with that person's brother in law in the end.

The Identicals by Elin Hilderbrand...

I love love love anything by Elin Hilderbrand!!! The majority of her books are set in Nantucket during the summer and they are just good girly beach reads. This one proved no different and is about two sisters...one lives in on Martha's Vineyard and the other Nantucket. The islands are only about 2 and a half hours from each other but the sisters never visit each other or go from island to island until their father passes away. They then switch islands and kind of lives and fall in love.

The Breakdown by B.A. Paris...

I love a good mystery/thriller type book and B.A. Paris does not disappoint when it comes to this. I read her other book Behind Closed Doors and loved it. I also have read The Woman in Cabin 10, The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl etc. and loved them all.

This book is about a young man who sees a murder when coming home one evening in the rain. She doesn't stop to help the woman because it is pouring and she doesn't seem to be in danger. Later she finds out that she knew the woman. She begins receiving silent calls and basically having a breakdown. Come to find out someone she is very close to is the silent caller and having an affair with her best friend. The woman who is murdered is murdered by her very close friend and they all make it out to look like the main character is suffering from early dementia and it makes her go crazy until one random day in a coffee shop when she discovers a cell phone and connects all the dots. It keeps you on your toes and guessing. This is a book I couldn't put down.

Same Beach, Next Year by Dorothea Benton Frank...

Who doesn't love a beach read and I needed this one after The Breakdown. Friends vacation together in the same place for years. Ironically two of the characters are kind of high school sweethearts (first romance etc. lovers). They don't end up marrying each other but when they go to vacation on year they find themselves at the same beach. They end up having kids the same age and vacation together for many years. The high school sweethearts always kind of appear to still have something for each other and one day are caught together in the same condo. Nothing has occurred between them but it leaves their spouses questioning their marriages and if something was going on all along. This is a sweet book about finding your true love and sticking together during the good and bad times.

WHAT I'M READING NOW....

What have you been reading this summer? What should I order and add to my list of must reads?

Friday Favorites- San Antoio trip recap

Today I am linking up with Narci, Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites....

I am sooooo thankful that Hubby and I took a much needed relaxing week and went to San Antonio. This is a destination we have talked about going to for multiple years because we wanted to do Six Flags. Well maybe let me rephrase... the hubby has talked about doing a Six Flags season pass (since college days) or going to a theme park each summer for a day or two. San Antonio is 8 hours from Shreveport so we just never have really opted to go when we could go to Gulf Shores, Destin beachy area for 8 hours of driving also. However, we have only been to Gulf Shores once in almost 9 years of living in Louisiana. :-)

We stayed at the Hyatt Hill Country which has multiple pools (even an adult only one), a lazy river with tubes and beachy area, a golf course, yummy food, bikes, and a nature trail.

We enjoyed going to Six Flag Fiesta TX, Sea World and just relaxing via poolside.

I haven't been to San Antonio since High School and haven't been to Sea World since probably elementary or early middle school.

I loved Sea World all the animals, the shows and just walking around the park and enjoying the rides. The majority of the rides didn't go upside down and the whole park had more of a kid friendly feel to it.

Now Fiesta TX OMG....in my husband's words everything ride was EXTREME. Almost all of the rides expect 2-3 went upside down. That just makes you sick after a while lol!!! Too many loopity loops!!!

We enjoyed eating at Acenar on the recommendation of a friend at the River Walk. You can't turn down margaritas and Mexican food when in San Antonio. We also enjoyed 2 evenings at the hotel and OMG a grilled cheese brisket sandwich. I am not a huge brisket sandwich person but it was sooo good!!!

It was a wonderful birthday getaway for a few days. The plan was for hubby and I to spend birthday's together (We are a week apart). However, he had to go back to Louisiana for a work emergency last evening. :-(

I am thankful for the time spent together!!!

We also ordered a new couch for the house in Texas and I can't wait to get it in a few weeks!!! More details on that SOON!!

Friday Favorites

Hi ladies...Today I am linking up with Narci, Erika and Andrea for Friday Favorites!! It is hard to believe that another Friday is here but I am so happy for the weekend....even though I have to work the evening shift both Saturday and Sunday.

1) Pumpkins and black and white check

I bought these cute napkins off Pottery Barn last week and they arrived yesterday. I am wanting to make some pillows out of the black and white check pattern and then will use the pumpkin ones for our Fall table.

2) Blends Wine Bar

Thursday evening I tried a new wine bar in Belton....they had a very small menu (no food expect a cheese tray) but I enjoyed a glass of wine with my Small Group.

I am so very blessed to have these women in my life and look forward to growing in my faith and getting to know them better.

3) B.A. Paris and her new book....I read Behind Closed Doors earlier this summer and now am really enjoying The Break Down. I also love a good mystery/thriller.

4) Surprise Birthday Trip

Everyday I get to ask the hubby a yes or no question to learn where we are headed on a birthday trip in August.

So far the questions have been...

Is it on the beach? NO
Have we been there before? NO
Is it more than a 10 hour drive? NO
Are we traveling there together by either car or plane? YES

5) Stella and Dot...I have a trunk show this weekend and can't wait to show the ladies the new collection!!!

Friday Favorites

Today I am linking up with Narci, Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites...it is hard to believe that is already again Friday.

1) Stella and Dot's new Fall collection...the new Fall collection launched Tuesday and I have to say I am in love....these are a few of my favorite pieces from the new collection. The best part is ALL of these are under 50 dollars!!! The druzy bracelet also has an adorable earring set and the pave comes in gold and silver (earrings, necklaces and bracelets) :-)

2) The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Tuesday I went to shop the anniversary sale and I have to say I wasn't all the impressed with the selections this year. They had a lot of the store roped off to show what was part of the early access sale and that made it feel less inviting. :-(

I got some undies, thanks Sheffear for the recommendation!!!
An Ugg poncho
Vince slip on sneakers

Friday Favorites

Today I'm linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika for Friday Favorites!!!

1) The Nordstrom anniversary sale is open for card holders. Sadly I am not a card holder but my mom is and we are going to shop the sale next week. I have been wanting some booties, new sweaters for a trip in May (Alaska) and also my birthday is next month and I love to shop the sale for that and early Christmas gifts. Which are your favorite help me decide?!?!

2) Small Group
This week I hosted small group at my house...we had fun playing in a kiddie pool and just being social. We made s'mores as the evening went on and it was so fun to see the excitement on the kids face.

My grill isn't working so I used a terra cotta pot, some aluminum foil, charcoal and lighter fluid and BAM I had a mini fire pit for roasting marshmallows for S'mores. SO YUMMY!!!

3) Fresh fruits and veggies

I needed to go get some whey protein (I make smoothies and drink it after workouts) and discovered the store I went to was more of a grocery store with fresh fruits, veggies, vitamins etc.

4) Fresh Flowers

5) TX certificate

I renewed my Texas education certificate and now can teach again in TEXAS!! YeeHaw
