Classy Southern Texan

Today I am linking up with Narci, Andrea and Erika for the final Friday Favorites of 2017. Wow it is hard to believe it is the last Friday of the year. Soon we will be ringing in 2018. What are some of your favorite NYE traditions?!?! My inlaws used to take us on a cruise and it is some the best memories of being on a ship in the Caribbean with family!!!

Today, I thought I would share my favorite products of 2017. Most of these are items I found this year and some are ones I have been using for a while!!!

1) Goggle Home

I gifted my Dad Goggle Home for Christmas and it has been called the best CHRISTMAS gift ever!!! He has taught it my mom's name, some of his favorite songs and so forth. He loved SIRI so this is even better. Probably the funniest part was him saying Hey Goggle play music. It started playing current music and he couldn't get it to stop. He called me (I was in Shreveport) and asked me how to make it STOP. He had unplugged it and we finally realized you have to say HEY GOGGLE everytime you want it to do something or stop something! :-)

2) T3 curling wand...OMG I have always tried to achieve the look of pretty curls. You know those ones your hair stylist can do but you never achieve at home. Well about a month ago my favorite blogger Mix and Match Mama did a hair tutorial and talked about the T3 wand. I will say it is an investment but worth every single penny!!! I had a Nordstrom note I used to purchase mine because Nordstrom has an awesome return policy but once I tired mine I have been hooked. It is sooo easy to use!!

3) Wolfermans English muffins and cinnamon rolls!! OMG the perfect morning breakfast! My mother in law send my parents a variety pack of Wolferman's products and there was not a single item that was not devoured in about 3 days. My mom even told all of her girlfriends about it and they purchased them for family and friends. The apple cinnamon and cinnamon raisin English muffins are amazing and the cinnamon rolls are yummy also!!

4) Dry Shampoo and Dry Bar products

I recently watched a hair tutorial my Mix and Match Mama and Brighton Keller and they both raved about Dry Bar products. My bestie Bethany swears by the products also and the blow dryer. I just recently got the dry shampoo and OMG life changing and the Sparkling Soda product makes my hair feel so refreshed and clean and sparkly!!

5) Melanie Shankle's books...OMG thank you Bethany and Mix and Match Mama for showing me these books. Back in August my sweet bestie Bethany got me Nobody's Cuter Than You about friendship. Now I am reading Church of the Small Things and I just love these cute, quirky little books about everyday life.

I am so thankful for this weekly link up and being introduced to Mix and Match Mama's blog several years ago. I love following along with Shay (yes her brother is Sean Lowe from the Bachelor), Narci, Andrea and Erika. I am looking forward to linking up in 2018 with these amazing women. Look for some new product reviews, life lately and linkups in the New Year.

WOW it is crazy how fast this year has flown by....

I wanted to recap 2017 so I can remember all the fun amazing memories that were made!!

January

In January we rang in the New Year in Shreveport....most years we are on a holiday cruise with my inlaws so this was something new and fun. We ate pasta at a local Italian restaurant and enjoyed a bottle of champagne at home!!

We looked at houses for our upcoming move and my dad ran for city council.

We celebrated TRUMP winning and I enjoyed lots of cuddles from the little girl I babysat.

February

February was celebrated with a trip to Vail, CO to ski and a trip aboard to SWEDEN to get my new car!!! My great grandmother immigrated from Sweden to the USA so this was trip of a lifetime. We had a layover in London so we got to experience Winsor Castle and shop around a little bit.

March

March was celebrated by moving to TX and closing on a new house. Starting a new business venture and my dad turning 65.

APRIL

In April, furniture officially arrived in TX and I started decorating the house. We celebrated EASTER in Louisiana and adjusted to spending time in LA and TX.

MAY

In May we went on our second vacation of the year to the happiest place on EARTH Disney World for a week! It was not fun getting there multiple flight delays but we had so much fun!!! Thanks to an amazing friend planning our vacation. We stayed at the Contemporary which was so convenient because of the shuttle in the hotel. We also enjoyed dinner at California Grill on the top amazing!!

Today I am linking up with Shay, Sheaffer and Mel for What's Up Wednesday...I cannot believe that 2017 is almost over!!! AHH the days are long but the years are short.

What We're Eating This Week....

Monday- Jimmy John's sandwiches
Tuesday- baked potatoes
Wednesday- Family Christmas at Eddie V's
Thursday- ????
Friday- ????

I have been so bad about meal prepping lately...back on track in 2018. LOL

What I'm Reminiscing About...
Every 2 years we go to an event in Shreveport called Christmas In The Sky...it is a big fundraiser for our regional arts council. I loved this dress and it was a wonderful evening. They rent out a local casino and have 3 floors of entertainment, food, drinks and auction items. They then have a huge live auction.

What I'm Loving....It's Christmas week!!! Give me all the Hallmark Christmas movies, cozy nights in and cooler weather.

What We've Been Up To..

Christmas wrapping, Christmas Shopping and baking...I made reindeer chow for our employees and it is sooo yummy!!

No holiday party is complete without a big bowl of reindeer chow! This Christmas chex mix is loaded with chocolate flavor and is perfect for feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup dry brownie mix or 1 cup powdered sugar mixed with 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 bag Christmas M&M's
  • 2 cups mini peanut butter cups
  • 2 cups pretzel twists

Instructions

  1. Place the cereal in a large bowl. In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave the chocolate mixture for 30 second intervals until melted; stir until smooth.
  2. Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal and use a spatula to gently toss the cereal in the chocolate until completely coated.
  3. Place the brownie mix inside a resealable gallon sized plastic bag. Add the chocolate coated cereal. Seal, then shake until cereal is coated in the brownie mix.
  4. Spread the cereal out in a single layer on a sheet of parchment paper; cool completely until dry.
  5. Combine the cereal, M&M's, peanut butter cups and pretzel twists, then serve.

Recipe Notes

To make this reindeer chow peanut free, use white candy melts instead of peanut butter in the chex and swap out the peanut butter cups for mini marshmallows.

Today I am linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika for Friday Favorites!!!

This time of year give me all the Christmas movies...I love to watch the Hallmark channel in the evenings. I know they are all very predictable but they are happy!!!

I love Tim Allen in the SANTA CLAUS and Charlie Brown is always a favorite.

What is your favorite Christmas movie? I love Home Alone, Elf and the Grinch...but also love the classics of Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman.

Chritmas cookies....Every year during the holidays my mom makes Swedish Spritz cookies. She has her great grandmother's original spritz cookie maker from Sweden that she brought over when she came to the USA. I look forward to these cookies all year long. They are light and sweet but ooo so yummy. When I was in Sweden in February...my husband and I got her a new Spritz cookie maker because the original one is just sooo old and we want to keep and enjoy it but still enjoy the yummy cookies.

I recently discovered the website HUCKBERRY. It has awesome things for the men in your life! I bought the hubby a new gym bag for Christmas and I can't wait for him to open it. I personally loved that it had a separate area for his shoes!!

I am excited to give my dad his gift also...when he gets home the evenings and it is cooler he enjoys wearing a casual shirt with PJ pants. I have found he honestly loves the PJ pants from GAP that were given to him years ago.

I typically find the men in the family are the hardest to shop for so many this gave you some ideas. :-)

Everybody deserves some SPARKLE in their life and I am covering shipping on Stella and Dot jewels until Sunday when we have Christmas cutout. I personally am loving the new GEMMA earrings and bracelet. I love the versatility of Stella and Dot pieces are these earrings are no exception. They can be worn as a stud or more of a statement piece.

Merry Christmas blogging world! I am off to wrap some presents and head to work on this cold December day!!!
