Life Lately...Summer Reading Edition

by - Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Life Lately...has consisted of long summer days, spent working, celebrating mine and my husband's birthday's and a quick trip away to San Antonio.

I love to read and enjoy the long days of summer when I can stay up later and enjoy a good book read in bed. I would choose reading over TV or music any day of the week.

Here is what I have read lately....

When Life Happened by Jewel E. Ann...

This book is about two twins sisters, their past and how they come to collide on day when they are adults. One twin is married (ironically to the other twins ex), expecting her first baby and has moved back to their home town. The other twin is looking for a job and remodeling her grandparents house. This twin isn't looking for love but does find it not only once but twice. I don't want to give too much away but let's just say I didn't see the first relationship ending the way it did and her falling in love with that person's brother in law in the end.

The Identicals by Elin Hilderbrand...

I love love love anything by Elin Hilderbrand!!! The majority of her books are set in Nantucket during the summer and they are just good girly beach reads. This one proved no different and is about two sisters...one lives in on Martha's Vineyard and the other Nantucket. The islands are only about 2 and a half hours from each other but the sisters never visit each other or go from island to island until their father passes away. They then switch islands and kind of lives and fall in love.

The Breakdown by B.A. Paris...

I love a good mystery/thriller type book and B.A. Paris does not disappoint when it comes to this. I read her other book Behind Closed Doors and loved it. I also have read The Woman in Cabin 10, The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl etc. and loved them all.

This book is about a young man who sees a murder when coming home one evening in the rain. She doesn't stop to help the woman because it is pouring and she doesn't seem to be in danger. Later she finds out that she knew the woman. She begins receiving silent calls and basically having a breakdown. Come to find out someone she is very close to is the silent caller and having an affair with her best friend. The woman who is murdered is murdered by her very close friend and they all make it out to look like the main character is suffering from early dementia and it makes her go crazy until one random day in a coffee shop when she discovers a cell phone and connects all the dots. It keeps you on your toes and guessing. This is a book I couldn't put down.

Same Beach, Next Year by Dorothea Benton Frank...

Who doesn't love a beach read and I needed this one after The Breakdown. Friends vacation together in the same place for years. Ironically two of the characters are kind of high school sweethearts (first romance etc. lovers). They don't end up marrying each other but when they go to vacation on year they find themselves at the same beach. They end up having kids the same age and vacation together for many years. The high school sweethearts always kind of appear to still have something for each other and one day are caught together in the same condo. Nothing has occurred between them but it leaves their spouses questioning their marriages and if something was going on all along. This is a sweet book about finding your true love and sticking together during the good and bad times.

WHAT I'M READING NOW....
